Apri's Tax Service, Inc. in the Community: Free Tax Preparation
April used to be involved in V.I.T.A., the volunteer income tax assistance program. V.I.T.A. is a group of volunteers sponsored by the IRS and local colleges in which a group of volunteers offer free preparation to the low-income and elderly at their local libraries, churches, etc.
April is no longer affiliated with V.I.T.A. because she has been out of school so long, but she continues to offer the same service at her church. Every Sunday during tax season (starting the middle of February), she has a reserved room at Grace Church - Saint Louis where the low-income and elderly can have their taxes prepared by volunteers for free on a first-come, first-serve basis. She begins at 1:00 pm and stops taking cases at 3:00 pm. To view current information and dates for the current tax year, visit the Grace Church - Saint Louis Financial Freedom Minstries website.
April will also take care of her client's family members that qualify as low-income (typically $25,000 or less) or elderly (65 or older). Please note that there are some elderly taxpayers who have complicated returns that will not qualify for free preparation. Exceptions include the self-employed, resident aliens, and certain 65 or older with large incomes.
